Welcome MountainMan
Have you read the Get together for a Oregon Singles party anyone thread yet? That will give you a pretty good idea. We are going to bulid kites on Friday night (or you can build a Kit Kite, or there is a Home Built division) there will be a judging on Friday night just on looks. Then on Saturday we will do the flying and do a judging then. We also have various Ice Breakers planned...But, we are still making plans, Sooo if you have any ideas we are all ears

OK, now this is more like it...MountainMan is really in the right Spirit...He is bringing his Bass Boat, Crab Rings and Fire Wood...He has an extra tent and mattress' and a Camper Shell on the back of his truck with a mattress in it. Wait, I'm not done yet... He has a State park free use pass and is offering to share his camp site...But, since this is more than generous whoever shares his site should feed him (MY Idea, NOT His). Kudos to MountainMan
This should help fix some problems...If you are interested in taking MountainMan up on his offer, then please post and let him know...that way his accommodations are not over-booked so to speak. How Fun is This?

Thanks for all the information, if it's first come first serve, when do we pay? I won't be able to get there until around 4pm Friday and it's not like I have never camped before but I am kinda confused how to pay if you are not doing it online. I went to the campground online and it will not show if there are any sites available or not. I wound like to come but I would like to make sure that I will have a site that will fit my big tent. As it gets closer I will keep checking. Oceanblue48

Hi, Oceanblue48!
Glad you're gonna join us! I hear that the campsites there are good-sized, so your large tent shouldn't be a problem. With a no-reservations system, you just show up, select a site, and pay the attendants directly. Knowing you can't be there until Friday afternoon, we'll try to keep an eye on a site that might be suitable, but since it's not allowable to reserve a site, we can't promise anything. In case it might be crowded, we'll share sites and split the cost. Hold a good thought, and everything will work out as well as can be!

Though there is a camp host, (they are mainly there to sell wood and clean the facilities) there is a pay station, you just go and pick out your site, get the number and go pay at the pay station...easy peasy...As Jim says we will be there for you...any problems that you might have we will help you with, both of our camps will be set up Thursday so we will already have scoped everything out by the time you get there.

I was under the impression that there is only one tent per site allowed. And a limit on vehicles per site. This is from previous experience at other sites. Isn't this a state-wide policy?
This is me concerned that there won't be room, there are rules and then no where to go from there once I get there. I won't be arriving until sometime on Friday. I will not be bringing the second home - my three room 15x25 tent. I'm probably going to pick up a smaller tent.
Any ideas anyone?
I can try calling the parks department.

It's too bad that we can't reserve spots or pay for some spots to hold them or something. Somehow I don't think there will be any problems, but then again I am not familiar with that campground and how popular it is.
Maybe Mountain Man knows if it gets crowded on the weekends?

You guys have camped in Oregon before...haven't you???
All right, I searched the State parks site...by the way, for you new campers, there are Federal parks, State parks, County parks, City parks in Oregon and they all have different rules and such.
Here is what the State park site says on number of people allowed (no mention of how many tents)
What are the rules on how many vehicles and people per campsite: Usually, a maximum of eight campers are allowed per site (though there are sites that only permit 6 people per site). Yurts and cabins hold five to eight people, depending on location.
I am very familiar with this area, and I think that there is a lot of worrying going on that is Not necessary...Why make it harder than it is??? But, then Maybe you would be more willing to believe MountainMan...

One car is covered when you pay for the site, additional cars are $5.00 and there is an overflow lot.

It wasn't my intention to give the impression that it's harder than necessary by throwing out a question if anyone knew the regulations on how many tents are allowed in one site.
I've camped in Oregon. It's probably hard to find a native Oregonian that hasn't.

I didn't think you said or asked anything wrong. Perhaps Redwicket took offense because she picked the campground. Don't worry about it. If there are no places left. so be it.

Well, hey, Mod!
One of our silent lurkers pops in! Hey -- you have a part in this too! If it weren't for you, none of us would be here! You should join us for the campout ... and be sure to have your name sticker, and your campsite banner, that say "ForumMod!" We should ALL meet and fly a kite and have a fun weekend together!

After speaking with JoyMongerJim on the phone we decided that maybe it is best if I explain why I picked this campground...Those of you who have done the reserved camp site thing probably realize that June is kind of late to get a block of camp sites for any time in the Summer on the Oregon Coast. People start reserving camp sites in February or so...the first come, first serve is much more flexible for our purposes. Jim and I are going early for a Reason, we can at the Very least hang on to four campsites...That's at least space for 32 campers, plus we are more mobile (not tied to that particular site) should we on say Friday morning see a more wonderous area of sites we CAN pick up and move our camp...But don't worry people, even if we get more people attending then can be accomodated by this campground, there are others not that far away, they can get a site there and spend the day/evening with us returning to their site just to sleep.
There is a method to my madness And, I want to assure everyone that no one will be left out, we will problem solve as a group until everyone is taken care of, that's what our Matchdoctor Community will do!
Also, if you haven't ever been to the Hobbit Trail/Heceta Head it is really something, AND the beach there has been known to have the Glowing Sands phenomenon, the timing of the campout is just perfect for it. The waters of the ocean being warm enough to bring up the nutrients to feed the bioluminescent dinoflagellates (which are small planktonic plants) causing footsteps to glow, glowing waves, bluish-green sparks when the sand is kicked, etc...SHOULD we be LUCKY enough to see it, it IS a once in a lifetime experience. One that I'm willing to take the chance on seeing!!!

You all are going to have so much fun!!!! Please take lots of photos and post them here---especially that glowing sand. I had hoped to be able to incorporate this weekend into a trip to CA in my van; but unfortunately, (or not, depending on how you look at it) I have job interviews on both sides of that weekend, one in Baker City and the other in Portland.
I'll be thinking about you all weekend :-)

Hey, Sally --
We'll hold the thought that you'll receive an offer you can't refuse at the first interview, so you can cancel the second and join us for the campout, and not miss out on your CA journey!
