Well, I'll be bringing my one-burner propane stove -- not good for simmering, but great for boiling a pot of water!
But hey, since Phil has opted out, unless somebody else needs the sleeping space, I won't bring the pop-up trailer. I sleep in my vehicle anyway, or in my little dome tent, so if somebody needs the shelter, I can still plan to bring the trailer, but speak up now ....

Bad News........ My trip to the fair last night for my birthday ended up with a canceled party and me in the ER. Just after arriving and walking about 200" I stepped into a hole and went down and pulled the ligaments under my foot, heel and side of my foot. I am wrapped and in an aircast and unable to walk. My son-in-law was a football coach and he's been taking very good care of me. Ice water to hot water soaks this morning and elevation now. There is very little chance of my being able to go to the camp out. My car is a stick shift and trying to walk in the sand will be pretty difficult. I'm really sorry to crap out at the last minute.
I hope you all have a wonderful time.

Hey, ENFP --
Seems like you coulda found a more fun way to celebrate your birthday! I'm glad you have good care, and I hope all will go well. Thanks for the well-wishes, but we'll all have a better time if you heal quickly and come join us!

Yes, ENFP we will miss you...sorry that you have to miss this campout, but maybe you will be able to make another. I have ruptured a ligament in my ankle and I know that it isn't fun...but if the swelling comes down quickly that is a good thing. Take care of yourself! Redwicket

The Michigan group has been having problems, and have joined their campout with Indiana, In Indiana...that is usually what happens when one person, or two take on the bulk of the work...Because they were paying someone to plan all their meals and do all of the shopping and such things might have seemed easier than what we have going here. I have to correct you Redwicket, I didn't get paid to do anything. I willing did it on my own, and had fun doing it.
Yes, we did have some problems, but ended up having a GREAT time, even if a lot of people dropped out for one reason or another. One of the great things was, we didn't limit it to just local people. We had people from Iowa, CA, Missouri, AZ, as well as IN. Most of the people that did have to drop out, had very good reasons. We are planning to do this again in the fall.

Even though I did the shopping, everyone had a voice in the planning. We also all took turns cooking and cleaning up. (Although, after I cut my finger, showing Heaven how to "safely" open a plastic package, I got out of the clean up part.)

We did all enjoy staying on the same site, even though we had reserved 3, and the girls all sharing a tent. The rangers only had to come by twice and remind us it was quiet time.

It looks as if there was a lot of fun going on! One thing! The Oregon Campout was not limited to locals. Everyone who wanted to come were welcome. That was made very clear to start with. People were invited from all over the Northwest, not just those residing in Oregon.
Have fun guys!!!

Luvmycats...just curious as to why you would think that this gathering is for locals only.
Oregonians are known not just for our pioneering spirit, But also for our friendly way... that said, most that I know also believe in sharing the work load. And I don't mean just offering to bring a tarp (which is laughable in the Pacific Northwest). We Want this experience to be Fun for Everyone...But this is meant to be a venue for meeting for the first time, we don't know who is showing and who isn't, sooo, we are not going to over-plan. Since we Do have a pioneering spirit, we are most capable of landing on our feet and making what we have to work with, Work.
I am glad that your campout went well...Redwicket

Hey, all you out-of-state lurkers --
Come one, come all! The more the merrier! Aside from the fact that it's an adult singles function, we've got no rules here (except the ones imposed by the State Parks system!) Yeah, bring whatever you need, and a little something to share, and let's make this a national event!
Can you fly a kite? Find out for sure at the Kite Kollaboration Kampout! (First, ya gotta konstruct one!) And if you're a winner, we'll all applaud! (Materials provided.)
Mostly it's all about getting acquainted, face to face in person, and having a good time together ... without having to type a single word!
And it happens next weekend -- August 3-4-5 at Carl G. Washburne Memorial Campground (no reservations -- just show up and rent a site!), 14 miles north of Florence, on the incredibly beautiful Oregon coast. There's beach access, hot showers, and they allow up to 8 campers per site (from what I'm told), so we can double- or triple-up, or better, and split the costs of the campsites. Carpool if you can, and join us!
Make a banner to mark your campsite with your online name, so we'll know who's who, and where. Look for the banners that Redwicket has made, which will direct you to the activity areas. Ya can't miss this!

except the ones imposed by the State Parks system!) LOL...I like the way you said that Jim..Yes, I sure do hope for a good time. Right now I'm leaning on a little depression. My life hasn't been going too well, and now my g/f wants for me to be at her home next week-end..God! I wish she would just make up her mind!! She says she misses me, but dang it!, I want something better, but my heart won't let me right now.Life can be a bitch at times. I am still wanting to make it, and I hope I'm able to.

Wes, you deserve to be respected. The camp out has been your dream from the beginning. If you are asked to give this up (even after you have invited her to come along) and that person cannot make up their mind, to me it shows a selfish person. This is only my opinion, however from what I heard from Tami you are a class act. Who knows, you just might make a connection who appreciates you.

Wes, I agree with ENFP...And, what is the big rush? Perhaps things just moved a bit too quickly and you should take your time and get to know each other better. You deserve to be loved for who You are, not a memory of someone else...But, then that is just My opinion

Oh thank-you both for such nice words.. Especially to you, Nancy. Yes you are right. It is selfish of her, and I do deserve more. I will try my best to be there..

Wes, By all means go to the Camp Out. You are the one who came up with the idea.
If she wants to really be with you, then she will attend with you, or at least understand why you are going. Take care of yourself. No one else will.
Have a great time!! I may drop by on my way to Eugene. A bit out of the way, but I would at least like to make contact.

It's not that far out of the way Phil if you are coming up the coast, which would be a very nice ride...and out of the heat that is going on inland. But, then I live out a bit and drive 16 miles just to get to a real store... You will see, once you get to Florence it is not far at all, and by the way the last little bit just might be the best part of the journey.

Thanks Red. I live out a ways too. It is about 20 miles into medford from where I live.
If I come, there won't be a lot of coast. I think the shortest way is Sutherlin to Reedsport, then to Florence. Just coast from Reedsport to the campground. that is about 3 to 31/2 hours. Then back to florence and on to Eugene is a bit over an hour. From here to Eugene is 2 1/2 hours. So there is about 2 hours travel time more. The road from Sutherlin to Reedsport can be slow also.
Anyway! Have a great time! If I see you all, it will be great. Fly a kite for me!!!

ok....I've been following this campout from the beginning...and am still tettering on the edge, because I hate to jump off the fence by myself. Call me shy...I dont care bit It sounds like a lot of fun. Anyway my son is almost persuaded to come with me so maybe I'll be there....what do I need to bring? Will we really be competing with 40,000 other people for camping sites??? I would hate to sleep in my car, but could if I had to, for one nite. I'm afraid will be in a hotel after that.... silly me ...I like the creatire comforts.
