It's gonna happen! Let's have a potluck picnic on Saturday, May 17. We'll meet any time before noon (there'll be some arriving on Friday) at Valley of the Rogue State Park, alongside Interstate 5 near Gold Hill in southern Oregon. Bring whatever you need and something to share, and we'll have a great time!
Bring a potluck dish for the picnic (there'll be a tabletop propane grill, in case something needs cooking or heating), your own tableware, and a smile! Bring a friend, if you like, or an outdoor game to share, or fishing gear (this is the world-famous Rogue River, ya know!) [oops -- Lovinheart says trout season isn't open yet!], or a kite or a bicycle ....
If you're coming from a distance, you can bring camping gear -- camping is available there at the park [and they've assured me there'll be plenty of spaces], or just sleep in the highway Rest Area at the same location! -- or plan to stay at a nearby motel in Gold Hill or Rogue River.
Some of us will make a whole weekend of it, arriving on Friday, the 16th, to get an early start, then setting up the potluck kitchen space and playing in the park on Saturday. We're looking into the rental of a yurt, for sleeping space and emergency shelter (see info posted by pns, below), and planning a wildflower hike on Lower Table Rock for Sunday. If you want to camp with us, bring acoustic music instruments for the evening campfire circles. (Or skip the potluck, and the camping, and just join us for the wildflower walk -- but let's get together, one way or another!)
There's a planning forum called "2008 Get Together Ideas" in the USA - Oregon area of the forums on this site. Please review the posts there, and below, for updated ideas and info.
Looking forward to meeting you soon!

Ahhh Red, I did write Jim , but it went to his personal profile, not this one.
Dqrn, you won't make it down! I was looking forward to meeting you. Alas, "That's life!"
I completely forgot about the vortex, aka House of Mystery. Thanks for the reminder. Lots of nice lakes around the area too. Applegate, Lost Creek Lake, Willow, Fish Lake , 5 mile, etc. Southern Oregon is beautiful!! Especially this time of year.
We will look forward to seeing those of you that make it. News coming on the Yurts, and camping spaces at Valley of the Rogue Park..
Have a dandy folks!!

Okay folks. Here is the information for you on Valley of the Rogue State Park. As much as I could find calling around.
Reservations for a camp site and/or Yurts is made at Reservations Northwest 1-800-452-5687. You may call the park 541-582-3128, or the Register /booth at 541-582-1118. There is a day use area as Jim said. Yurts cost is from $25 to $40. These go fast according to my DIL.. You can just show up at the park and probably find a camping site. You with trailers and motor homes have that option.
Myself, I live about 20 miles from the park, and it is a quick drive for me, so I will not be camping. Jim lives approximately 35 miles away. I am not sure just what he has planned.
Another fun thing I thought of are the Jet Boat Rides down the Rogue from Grants Pass. It is a lot of fun and the meals at the OK Corral (nope not tombstone AZ) are great.
I hope we have more than 4 people show up this year. As Red said, we may have one later in the Summer someplace else. Jim and I are just trying to get this thing off the ground. Some of you people closeby showed interest. Let's hear from you again.
this is your chance to see magnificent Southern Oregon at it's finest...Weather permitting!!
I'm Out!!! Phil

Yes, Wes, it's looking good! I'm sorry Redwicket and Panzer couldn't make it, and a few others too, but maybe we can do another event later in the season, when some of those folks might be free to join us.
I talked to the officials at Valley of the Rogue State Park yesterday, and they told me there's one whole loop of campsites not yet in use, so if the other sites fill up, they'll open that section -- then whoever of us are camping can be in one area!
For our gathering spot and our potluck picnic on Saturday, we'll be in one of the two Day Use areas. Both are located to the right from the restroom building in the highway Rest Area. Just look for my banner in rainbow colors, draped in the trees -- it's actually a kite, that says "JoyMonger Jim" on it. If anybody gets there before I do, grab a picnic table! That'll be our spot!
